Secretary's Comments

- by Ruth Jenkins

I have to apologize for not updating the website as regularly as I have in the past. This has been a year of great change in my family.

Both my husband and I retired (you'd think that would give me more time to update the website!) this past year.

Right after retirement we sold our home of many years, moved to an entirely new state (California to Washington), and began building our retirement home.

It was easier to keep up with the Wildflower website when I was working full time!

My excuse late last fall was that each owner received a printed copy of the Annual Owners' Meeting minutes, so I stalled on updating the web. However, now we have had our winter board meeting. I can stall no longer.

Here on the right are the minutes of the winter Board meeting.

With regard to the wood holders (an item under new business). Here are three pictures of the wood holder that Ed Vignoul had installed at his condo: 1, 2, and 3. If you would like to have a similar one made for your condo, please contact Deanna Knox.

An important item buried in the board minutes is that board member Wayne Kreger has sold his Wildflower unit. Wayne was a great asset to our board because of his experience in the construction industry. He helped us solve the chimney leaks problem in the Phase II units and brought to the board a practical approach to our maintenance problems. We will miss him.

Looking forward, this means that right now we have one open board position. We are recruiting one owner to serve out the remainder of Wayne Kreger's term.

The board meets once in January, once in April and once in August. Board members also attend the Annual Owner's Meeting in October. Meetings are held in Sunriver or occasionally in a board-member's home (usually along the I-5 corridor in Oregon). If one is unable to attend in person, phone conference attendance is available. I, personnally, have taken advantage of this and can attest that it works well.

I realize that when things are going well, as I believe they are now, owners feel no incentive to become involved. But there is a good reason why:

Our by-laws limit board members to three 2-year terms. Board members volunteer their time. These term limits insure that this contribution to our Association is shared by many owners rather than falling upon the shoulders of only a few.

The best guarantee that our Association will continue to function smoothly is that we incorporate new board members on a rotating basis.

Our current board is effective and collegial. Meetings last only two hours and run very smoothly. Deanna Knox is the Association's manager. She handles day-to-day Association affairs under the direction of the board. She attends all board meetings.

If you join our current board, filling out Wayne's unexpired term, you will have a remarkable opportunity to serve on an exemplary board (Thank you Rod Englert!). This experience then will provide continuity to our Association less the two years from now when two of our existing board members (Rod Englert and Ed Vignoul) step down, having contributed their maximum service.

Please consider stepping forward now to help your Association.
