Manager's Corner

-from Mel Nunn
The weather here in Sunriver during August, September and October was simply outstanding. It was and is most always the best time of the year. Most of the visitors are back at work and in school. The owners and a few visitors who really know Sunriver recapture the bicycle paths and golf courses. Resident owners comment that golfing has been even more pleasant than during the summer.

Winter hit us all of a sudden on Tuesday,October 22, 1999. It snowed all day Tuesday and Wednesday. The good news is, we had a beautiful golf day the Monday before. The bad news is we were unable to complete painting of Phase III before the weather changed. However, we will use the delay as an opportunity to get some good competitive bids from competent painting contractors.

Maintenance Items:

We just finished removing all pine needles and having the lawn fertilized. This should reflect in a healthy lawn next year. I had the iron pipe removed so the snow plow can clear the area near Unit 19. I hope to start trimming trees within the next three weeks. I will have the trash containers cleaned out during November. I am also soliciting bids from several chimney sweeps.

Capital Replacement Items:

The pilot installation of replacement steps for Phase III units has begun. The design under consideration involves building up and leveling the steps with the same type of pavers in use in Sunriver Mall. These are to be laid over the existing steps, in a frame. After evaluation of the pilot installation, we hope to complete all the steps before the summer of 2000.

I will be discussing the modification of the doors to the trash containers with a wood craftsman in Sunriver during November. He is good and inexpensive. This will help protect the trash from the masked animal and will allow us to open the doors without damage after heavy snow accumulation.

Requests for Owner Input:

I plan to mail out my letter requesting participation in developing a vision for Wildflower II during November 1999. I look forward to some serious and enjoyable discussions in this area. It can and should be an exciting time for owners to explore their investment and express themselves regarding the future of their investment. Although it is too expensive to mail many intermediate drafts to the entire ownership, we can post the intermediate drafts of our Association Vision, Mission and Goals to the website to stimulate discussion.

I also would like to use the telephone, fax, and email for future ballots responses as much as possible This would be more economical and expedient than the use of conventional mail. If you have comments or suggestions on this subject, please contact me.

We may want to start thinking about some work party projects for 2000. Some suggestions are: cleaning out all areas below the decks, reworking the fence, repainting the trash enclosures, planting some aspen and ponderosa trees to celebrate Arbor day, or ladder fuels reduction (tree trimming). If anyone else has suggestions, please contact me so that we can develop projects that are most beneficial to the Association.
