The Mission and Goals of our Association

At our annual meeting, last October, most of the meeting time was devoted to the urgent business of addressing our roofing problems.  In situations such as this, it is easy to lose sight of other equally important, but non-urgent business that was transacted as well.  I'd like to take time, in this newsletter, to dwell a bit on just such a topic.

An very important activity of the 1999 - 2000 Board was the work done to update our bylaws and to develop, review, and adopt a Mission Statement, Goals and Objectives for the Association.  This document was presented to the ownership at the annual meeting, and was included in the minutes sent to all owners.

Among other things, the modified bylaws added a provision that there would be term limits for board members.  The board realized that while term limits have many advantages, there can be disadvantages as well; one being that sometimes continuity is lost as board membership changes.  Enter the Mission/Goals/Objectives.  This document is meant to serve as a thread of continuity for the association throughout time.  It would provide the underlying "business culture" of the association so that, even as board members come and go, the board will continue to operate in a consistent manner.

I've posted the text of this document on our web site and added a link to the document on our home page.  It is a good document; it is a good reminder of what we stand for.  I encourage us all to read it from time to time, to remind ourselves of the important goals that underlie our Association business decisions.

Finally, there are "yardsticks" for each goal - ways that we can measure that our business decisions are furthering association goals.

Rod Englert, our board president this year, has assumed leadership of our association under these tenets.  He is moving our association forward in conformity with these association goals.  Perhaps now is a good time to review these very important (though non-urgent) accomplishments:
